Mercer Islanders for Sustainable Spending:Advocating for Fiscal Responsibility
Mission and Focus
Mercer Islanders for Sustainable Spending (MISS) is a group of Islanders having varied backgrounds and interests. We meet about twice a month to discuss local current events primarily impacting the financial health of the City. A key tenet of our analysis is that we take the position from the perspective of the “Island taxpayer”.
History of Impact
MISS has been registered with the Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) since 2018 when we first analyzed and defeated the 2018 City’s Prop 1 $21M Six-year Excess Levy. We were also involved in the defeat of the 2025 School District $165M 14-yr Bond. MISS will also endorse and campaign for candidates we feel are fiscally “smart” and responsible.
Diverse and Skilled Volunteers
MISS volunteers are a varied group having a wide range of Island interests or passions. We are particularly strong in researchers who have a good understanding of finances. Volunteers change depending on personal availability and current issue. Most importantly volunteers have an understanding and deep feelings for the Island. And through it all, we also seem to have fun.
Leadership and Contact
Mike Cero is registered as the President and Treasurer of the organization. Mike has adult children but, back in the day, he was active in pre-school, the PTA, the School District, and served two terms on the Mercer Island City Council. He can be reached at mikecero@miforss.com or 206-419-0657.
