Local ZONING

Our Mercer Island City Council is increasingly facing mandates from State lawmakers regarding housing capacity and zoning. Historically, land use has been a local issue.

Islanders are in good company in their opposition to the Legislature’s aggressive legislation.  The Association of Washington Cities along with Bellevue are taking stands against the Legislature’s overreach in local zoning.  Our own Mayor Nice is taking a leading regional role as quoted in The Urbanist’s article   Washington Cities Push Back on More State Accountability Around Housing - The Urbanist.
